Does being within a professional industry mean you can't have fun?
When we say ‘’fun” we aren’t necessarily saying dress up in a banana costume on your website or try and make a video go viral- although if that represents your brand message then go for it! Fun doesn’t mean goofy, crazy antics that don’t represent your brand message and your audience. Rather, fun can be as simple as communicating and interacting with your audience in an easy to understand, unexpected and informative way.
Even if your business or industry doesn’t lend itself naturally to visual media, don’t be afraid to break the rules! When thinking about how to represent your brand, don’t just think about the product or service you sell, and the advantage it brings.
Humans are visual creatures with short attention spans and if GIFs or Memes aren’t appropriate, consider an infographic. They are a great way to present big, complicated data in a beautiful, easy to understand format. Bonus, they are perfect for sharing on social media, once posted to your website and shared via social media it can generate backlinks, essential for driving Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)!
Don’t let the pressure to produce relevant, informative content keep you from producing something that is engaging. Branch out from the predicated blog content and come up with something that your audience actually wants to read. Keep it informative, but add a different angle, answer a question, or solve a problem. Don’t be afraid to approach your content from a completely new angle, your customers will appreciate it.
Remember, content should also include imagery. And images create more views and more interactions which is great for your business. Also, think about adding a short “explainer” video, either about your brand or your products and services. On websites where an explainer video is present, visitors are 4x more likely to watch the video than read content. Videos are also great to share on social media, just remember to keep it short. The average human attention span is only 8 seconds!
Think of ways to add something that is unexpected and fun to a normal routine or service. For example, take a normal routine shipping notification from DCTUK. Their customer receives an email with a subject line “Your order has been dispatched! Boooooom!” When opened you see a playful image that will bring a smile to your face. This funny and unexpected memorable notification helps create a lasting impression and can foster brand loyalty as customers will appreciate something different and creative. Remember, it’s ok to have a bit of fun!
